Built for the workers most career advice forgets.
Remote Work Unlocked was founded in Kampala, Uganda, in a moment when the global remote work boom was passing most of the world by. Western publications were busy debating three-day office mandates and digital nomad visas in Lisbon. Meanwhile, the ambitious engineer in Lagos, the salesperson in Karachi, and the freelance designer in Manila were figuring out — alone, with patchy advice and outdated playbooks — how to compete for the same global jobs.
We started this publication for them. For the people for whom remote work is not a debate about office culture but a real economic opportunity, and for whom most of the available career guidance was written by, and for, someone else.
Today, we publish how-to guides, deep-dives, salary breakdowns, and reported essays. Every piece is built around a single question: what do you actually need to know to land, do, and grow a global remote career from where you are?
Three things every remote career needs.
How to get hired and paid well
Landing international employers, winning global platform contracts, negotiating fair rates, and building skills that compete on the world stage.
The human side of remote work
Burnout, loneliness, ergonomics, sleep, and the daily habits that keep you delivering through 8-hour days at your kitchen table.
Long-term financial moves
Pricing, taxes, contracts, investing, and entrepreneurship — turning a remote income into financial independence from the Global South.
Practical. Specific. Honest about what works.
We are reader-supported and editorially independent. We do not run sponsored content disguised as journalism, and we disclose every commercial relationship clearly. When we recommend a tool, a platform, or a tactic, it is because we have used it or interviewed people who have — not because someone paid for placement.
"Most career advice assumes you live in a country where the rules were written for you. We write for everyone else."
We write plainly. We avoid hype. And we treat our readers as the ambitious, capable professionals they are — people building real careers, in real economies, with real constraints, against real competition.
We read every email.
